TWO young Tameside musicians hit all the right notes when they took to the airwaves for a live performance on a BBC radio station for the first time.
Niall Brett and Sam Orr were asked to perform on presenter Simone Riley’s Sunday morning show on BBC Radio Manchester.
The guitarists, aged 17 and 25 respectively, joined drummer Alasdair Perry to back songwriter Linda Lamon acoustically as she sang her original composition ‘Don’t Put It On Me’.

During their appearance, Linda revealed that she had performed a song she had written for Sir Brian May – guitarist and vocalist for the legendary rock band Queen – at the opening of his woodland and that she has released four albums in the last four years.
Explaining how she met Niall and Sam, Linda said: “I was on the lookout for new musicians and the Dane Bank pub open mic session in Denton was recommended to me as a place where good players hang out.
“It’s there that I met Niall, who lives in Guide Bridge, and Sam, who lives in Stalybridge. I spotted their talent straight away.
“It’s not easy performing live on radio but these guys nailed it, so I’m extremely proud of them.”
Niall is now working on a traditional jazz version of the song that Linda will be releasing as a single later this year, with dates being added for gigs around Greater Manchester.
