AN AUDENSHAW cafe forced to tear down an unauthorised extension has received planning permission to incorporate a takeaway.
Marmaris Coffee Shop, on Droylsden Road, put up the huge structure without getting the go ahead from Tameside Council.
When it applied, it was refused because of its dominance over the street scene.

But it now has tables outside without a roof in a forecourt area allowed since 2013 and the change of use to also include a takeaway has been permitted by planning officers.
In September 2024, the extension was turned down because of what was deemed to be, ‘over excessive projection.’
Documents added it: “Significantly disrupts the existing building line on Droylsden Road and therefore is a prominent and dominant addition to the street scene.
“The front extension therefore has a detrimental impact on the character and appearance of the existing property and surrounding area.
“By reason of its unacceptable design, location, positioning and specification, the proposed extraction flue would have a significant impact on the health and well-being of neighbouring residents.”
Now, though, applicant Zed Yousif’s proposal which only includes a retractable canopy has been permitted.
It will also be able to have a takeaway, with opening hours from 8am until 11pm, after just one objection was received.
Documents state: “The proposal seeks planning permission to include a takeaway business within the existing ground floor part of the building, that currently operates as a café.
“The site lies amongst a row of other commercial units, that make up a local shopping centre/parade and thereby the addition of a takeaway in this setting/location is considered to be compatible with its neighbouring uses.
“In addition, the proposal would support the existing business.”
