Work to build Hattersley retail park begins

CONSTRUCTION of an £11 million retail park in Hattersley is underway after a ground breaking ceremony.

Hattersley Trade Park is expected to create more than 100 new jobs, including at an Aldi supermarket and drive-through Costa Coffee, who are both confirmed as early tenants.

The 57,000 square feet development will also feature eight light industrial units, parking for 179 cars and a Be.EV charging hub, with each of the new buildings being fitted with solar panels.

Hattersley Trade Park is expected to create more than 100 new jobs, including at an Aldi supermarket and drive-through Costa Coffee, who are both confirmed as early tenants.

Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds told the Correspondent: “The Hattersley Trade Park is a brilliant new development that will bring investment, jobs, and further regeneration to Hattersley.

“The plan has been a long time in coming together, and had some false dawns, but we are really starting to see some great developments get underway across the borough.”

His thoughts were echoed by Tameside Council leader, Councillor Eleanor Wills, who said: “This marks yet another fantastic step in the development of the Hattersley district centre, building on the incredible progress already achieved.

“Through strong partnership and investment in Hattersley, we’ve brought significant improvements – revitalising and creating new public spaces, bringing much-needed housing and providing valuable community support as well as for residents and young people.

“It’s great to see the success here and we want more of this for all our towns across the borough.”

Britcon, the contractors appointed to the build, expects completion by ‘early summer 2026’ on the site by the junction of Ashworth Lane and Stockport Road, opposite the Hattersley Hub.

Andrew Dewhurst, development director at Lancashire-based developers Maple Grove said: “It’s a significant milestone to have spades in the ground at this superb site which has lain dormant for many years.

“It will provide new employment and leisure facilities and create jobs for people in the local area.

“We have worked closely with Onward Homes and Tameside Council to create a true mixed-use development which will benefit the people of Tameside and we’re proud to be on site and delivering our vision for Hattersley.”

Sandy Livingstone, Executive Director of Property at Onward Homes, added: “We are extremely pleased to see this new development move forward after considerable effort from partners over many years. Once complete, these new facilities will provide local people with greater choice, as well as improving employment opportunities within the wider Hattersley community.”
