How Tameside futsal coaches have become national champions

TWO Tameside futsal coaches have proved they’re just as sharp on the court as they are on the touchline.

Oscar Lucas and Kai Lawless both coach at Sala Futsal Club but also play for Bolton Futsal Club.

The dynamic duo played a key role in helping Bolton to be crowned national champions recently.

They reached the grand final of the FA National Futsal Series first tier, beating Manchester Futsal Club 2-0 at the National Cycling Centre.

The victory takes Bolton into the UEFA Futsal Champions League, with qualifiers due to take place in August.

“It’s been an amazing season for us and to become national champions is fantastic for the sport in the north,” said Oscar. “We look forward to playing other futsal teams in Europe.”

Oscar, who is from Mossley, and Kai, who now lives in Gorton, both grew up playing futsal with Sala from the age of nine.

The pair enjoy giving something back by helping to develop the next generation of football and futsal players.

Sala Futsal Club currently runs sessions at Fairfield High School For Girls in Droylsden and at Ashton Sixth Form College, coaching children aged between six and 16 years old.

Futsal is FIFA’s official form of small-sided indoor football – a five-a-side game played on a basketball size court – which is well known for being a development tool for footballers.
