Support needed for two new defibrillators in Stalybridge

TWO community organisations are looking to install two new defibrillators in Stalybridge town centre.

Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club has teamed up with Stalybridge Town Team to explore where the life-saving devices could go – but the project also needs financial support.

They are working with local shops and businesses to purchase the devices that deliver an electric shock to the heart, to restore a normal rhythm or restart a stopped heart.

Both organisations have pledged to donate to the cause and as the Rotary Club is a charity, it can buy the equipment at a reduced price.

But more contributions will also be needed to supply two defibrillators – ensuring all businesses are within reach of the devices, which will be externally installed so they are available 24 hours a day.

As part of the project, the Rotary is also offering free CPR training to shop owners and their staff so they know how to handle the defibrillators and familiarise themselves with how the devices work.

It comes as business owners have stated the importance of their customers’ safety and Stalybridge being known as a safe place to shop and spend leisure time.

The Correspondent has reported on several defibrillators being installed in villages in and around Stalybridge in recent years – including last year at Millbrook Medical Practice, which was supported by Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary as part of its mission to increase the number of devices in the area.

Anyone with any questions or donations for the project is asked to contact Pauline Hesketh on 07894 664 579.
