Tameside: Mossley shows its pride and pageantry in Whit Walks

MOSSLEY joined together as hundreds of people took part in its annual walk of witness.

Schools and churches were joined by Brownies, Scouts, Guides, Cubs and other community groups in the Whit Friday event.

The sweet sound of brass music echoed through the air as Mossley Band, St John’s (Mossley) Band and Mossley Hollins High School Band all performed at various points of the procession.

After a service led by a hometown boy, Bishop of Manchester the Rt Rev David Walker, MP Jonathan Reynolds and Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Shibley Alam, led the parade as it made its way from the Market Ground to Bottom Mossley, before returning.

Hundreds lined the streets as children represented their school with pride, while Rose Queens and Brownie Queens were joined by their retinues.

Those not able to walk also took part in a fleet of vehicles at the end.

Many reported a great turnout for the event, which sees roads throughout the town closed for spells as walkers make their way along them.

And, most importantly, it did not rain!
