Baby suffers life changing injuries in Denton dog attack

A BABY has suffered life changing injuries in a horror dog attack that has seen the animal destroyed.

One believed to have been responsible was seen being led away following the incident on Baslow Road in the Haughton Green area of Denton at about 5.50pm on Thursday, May 29.

Now Greater Manchester Police has revealed the extent of the injuries sustained by the one-year-old girl, as well as a 21-year-old woman and 53-year-old man.

The force also confirmed the dog – said to have been with its owner since it was a puppy – has been put down.

After a large emergency services response, including an air ambulance, GMP said: “The one-year-old suffered serious and life-changing injuries to her face, she remains in hospital for treatment.

“The man and the woman both suffered injuries that are serious but not life threatening nor life changing.

“They were also taken to hospital.

“The dog was safely detained at the scene and seized by specialist officers in our Tactical Dog Unit.

“Following the incident, to ensure the safety of the public, the dog was humanely destroyed.

“An investigation has been launched into the circumstances.”

Detective Superintendent Gareth Jenkins of GMP’s Tameside District, added: “This was an awful attack that has left a one-year-old girl with serious and life changing injuries.

“Her family is understandably incredibly distressed by what happened here.

“The family of the young girl are being supported by officers as she recovers in hospital.

“A scene remains in place on Baslow Road in Denton in the immediate aftermath so officers can make further enquiries to establish a full timeline of events that led to this incident, we thank the local community for their patience and cooperation at this time.

“We are now appealing for information, there were people in the area specifically on Baslow Road who may have dashcam, CCTV or mobile footage that may be of assistance to our enquiries.
