Mental health conference in Tameside hailed as ‘positive and meaningful’

A CONFERENCE in Tameside centred around mental health and wellbeing has been described as ‘positive and meaningful’.

This is the fourth successive year that local charity The Anthony Seddon Fund has hosted the event at Dukinfield Town Hall.

The free and inclusive conference – open to the public – was held last Saturday (May 17).

It brought together over 25 organisations from across the borough who are committed to improving mental health and wellbeing in Tameside.

This year’s conference placed a focus on women’s mental health, with a line-up of speakers covering topics such as domestic abuse, the menopause, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and personal experiences of inpatient care.

On top of that, a marketplace event featured stalls and resources from community organisations offering practical support and advice.

Wellness activities such as guided meditation, Reiki and hand massages were also available.

The Anthony Seddon Fund – based in Ashton-under-Lyne – provides mental health peer support groups, therapeutic activities, wellbeing drop-ins and volunteer opportunities for people with mental health issues.

The charity says the event’s success reflects the ongoing efforts to provide community-led support for those affected by mental health issues in Tameside.

“We’re incredibly proud of what we achieved at this year’s conference,” said Ben James, General Manager at The Anthony Seddon Fund and organiser of the event.

“It’s a testament to the power of partnership, lived experience, and grassroots action. A huge thank you to our speakers, stallholders, volunteers, and everyone who attended for making it such a positive, meaningful day.”
