First-ever Hyde SOUP serves up success

AN INAUGURAL community crowdfunding event in Hyde has been hailed a success.

There was a great turnout for the first edition of Hyde SOUP, held at Hyde United Football Club.

Hosted by Project Solar UK’s Managing Director Tom Armstrong, the fun and informal event saw attendees enjoy a bowl of soup, listen to four local groups give four-minute pitches and vote for the cause they felt deserved the funding raised on the night.

Representatives from Hyde United Supporters Club, Hattersley Projects, Hyde Little Theatre and the Friends of Vincent Park put forward why they should receive the funds for their projects.

There could only be one winner, which was Hyde United Supporters Club, whose member Val Hadley was presented with a cheque for £859 by the host after her successful pitch.

The three runners-up received £100 – including the Friends of Vincent Park, a community group which organises events in Godley.

A spokesperson said it was a pleasure to attend and new friends were made who will support the group’s future events.

Among those in attendance were Hyde Godley councillor Andrea Colbourne, who congratulated the winners and said: “It was an enjoyable night and I’m looking forward to the next event.”

Organisers were pleased with how the pilot went and thanked those who supported the event on Tuesday, April 22.

“We’re so grateful to the incredible community who came out – whether you pitched, volunteered, donated, sponsored or simply showed up with a smile and an open heart, thank you for being a part of it,” they said.

“Special thanks to our four amazing pitchers. It takes real courage to stand up and share your passion – you were all brilliant! It was wonderful to see the community come together, connect and celebrate local ideas.

“And congratulations to Hyde United Supporters Club, who received the most votes and took home the pot to fund their project!

“We can’t wait to build on this and bring even more SOUP to Hyde – see you at the next one!”

Details about the next Hyde SOUP will be announced in due course.
