Tameside Hospice left ‘deeply saddened’ by charity shop break-in

A LOCAL hospice has been left “deeply saddened and frustrated” after a break-in at one of its charity shops.

Willow Wood Hospice has shared the news that its Reddish Lane shop in Denton was broken into on Monday night (April 14).

The Hospice says the back door of the premises has been “badly damaged” and the shop floor was “left in a complete mess”.

Around £600 of damage has been caused, which Willow Wood says is “a considerable amount of money that could be spent on a nurse to provide care for our patients or bereavement sessions for a loved one in grief”.

A statement on the Hospice’s social media channels added: “It is scandalous that someone can do this to a charity shop. This incident has not just caused financial damage – it’s impacted our dedicated team, who work tirelessly to support the Hospice and community.”

The shop remains open and the Hospice is appealing for any donations to help recover the unexpected costs involved to repair the damage.

Donations can be made on Willow Wood’s website here: https://willowwood.org.uk/make-a-donation/giving/one-off-donation/

The Hospice has confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police.
