Mottram Show organisers seek sponsors and volunteers

ORGANISERS of the Mottram Show are busy preparing for this year’s event, which looks to build on last year’s triumphant return.

The Mottram and District Agricultural Society is looking for sponsors and volunteers to support the show on Sunday, August 17.

Last year, around 2,300 people turned out as one of the oldest agricultural shows of its kind in the country opened the gates to the public for the first time since 2018.

The event, at the new location of the showground at the junction of Apple Street and Mottram Old Road, raised around £6,000 – which is being invested into putting on another extravaganza this summer.

But the Society – which is a registered charity made up entirely of volunteers who meet monthly – is appealing for community support to help ensure the popular event can be another success.

Claire Dunkerley, the Society’s Secretary, told the Correspondent: “There are Bronze, Silver or Gold packages available which include badges allowing entry to the show, recognition as a sponsor, a buffet lunch in the President’s Lounge, drinks vouchers, car parking passes and more.

“Any business or organisation can also sponsor a dog, horse, sheep or cattle class, or they can have a banner on the walkway from the car park, which is in a prominent location.”

Any interested parties can find out more information at https://mottramshow.co.uk/sponsors/ or email sponsorship@mottramshow.co.uk.

Businesses and individuals who cannot attend the event or want to support it in a different way can make a donation of their choice by visiting https://mottramshow.co.uk/product/donation/.

As well as financial support, the committee are also seeking people who can help out before, during and after the event – which will start at around 9am and end at around 4pm.

“We are looking for anyone who can assist us with lifting and carrying, building the showground in the week leading up to the event, and helping to look after the main ring attractions on the day,” said Mike Martin, the Society’s Chairman.

“We’re also keen on getting as many people as possible helping with car parking. There is also the opportunity for administrative tasks and we would welcome people who can help take the showground down the day after the event.

“You don’t have to become a Society member to volunteer for the show.”

More details about volunteering opportunities and how to get involved can be found at https://mottramshow.co.uk/volunteering/

With lighter evenings and milder weather setting in, the Society will start to ramp up its maintenance work to prepare the showground for the event.

Organisers already have plenty of catering establishments lined up to provide a variety of food and drink, as well as community stalls on the day, but they would also welcome trade stands from local businesses who would like to sell their products.

Anyone interested can contact secretary@mottramshow.co.uk to find out more.

Entry for the show’s sections and classes will be announced nearer the time.
