GUIDE Bridge Theatre is set to bring Agatha Christie’s classic mystery ‘A Murder Is Announced’ to the stage and is calling on local actors to audition for this gripping production.
Directed by John Cocks-Evans, the play will run for seven performances from Monday, July 28 to Saturday, August, including a Saturday matinee.

The play, adapted by Leslie Darbon, centers on a peculiar newspaper announcement stating that a murder will take place at a specific time and location. What initially appears to be a prank quickly turns into a sinister reality when a violent death occurs, followed by another just days later. With a house full of suspects, hidden motives, and buried secrets, Miss Marple must untangle the web of deception before the killer strikes again.
Characters & Roles Available:
- Miss Marple – A sharp-witted amateur detective (60s+).
- Letitia Blacklock – A well-groomed, middle-aged woman with financial ambitions.
- Dora Bunner (Bunny) – Blacklock’s forgetful and sometimes exasperating school friend.
- Philippa Hames – A war widow, elegant and serious-minded.
- Patrick & Julia Simmons – Mid-20s, stylish and quick-witted, with a secret romance.
- Edmund Swettenham – A mid-20s aspiring writer with a serious demeanour.
- Mrs Swettenham – Edmund’s socially-conscious mother (mid-40s+).
- Mitzi – A dramatic and excitable Polish housekeeper.
- Inspector Craddock – The lead investigator, initially sceptical of Miss Marple.
- Sergeant Mellors – A smaller but essential role as Craddock’s subordinate.
- Scherz – A young Swiss national with a pivotal, albeit brief, role.
