AMATEUR theatre is thriving in Tameside and nowhere is that more evident than at Guide Bridge Theatre in Audenshaw.
The latest production, ‘Be My Baby’, has seen repeat sell-out performances, proving that local audiences are more than willing to support top-quality theatre.
Written by Amanda Whittington, ‘Be My Baby’ is a moving yet humorous drama set in the 1960s, following the story of Mary Adams, a 19-year-old girl who finds herself in a mother-and-baby home after falling pregnant out of wedlock.

Under the watchful eye of Matron, she and the other young women navigate their circumstances, forming friendships and finding comfort in the music of the era.
The all-female cast delivered outstanding performances, bringing a great balance of comedy and raw emotion to the stage.
Amber Kennerley, a familiar face to Guide Bridge audiences, once again proved her incredible talent. Her portrayal of the sharp-witted and rebellious Queenie had the audience in stitches, effortlessly delivering dry humour while also bringing depth to her character.
Tamara Kaplanidis, in the role of Norma, was simply phenomenal. Her deeply emotional performance had the audience captivated – her ability to convey heartbreak and vulnerability was nothing short of breath-taking.
Em Stannage took on the lead role of Mary with great sensitivity, providing the perfect contrast to Queenie’s brashness. She captured the innocence and internal struggle of a young girl forced to grow up too soon. The chemistry between her and Kennerley was a highlight, as they balanced each other very well.
Beyond the acting, every element of this production was executed with precision. The music and singing added an additional charm, setting the tone of the 1960s.
There wasn’t a single aspect of this production that I didn’t enjoy. Guide Bridge Theatre has once again delivered a first-class performance.
If you were lucky enough to grab a ticket, you’re in for a fantastic evening. If not, keep an eye on what’s coming next – this is a theatre worth supporting.
