Waterloo club’s Elvis night hits the right note for charity

A LOCAL community-minded club turned their Elvis tribute night into an opportunity to support a cancer charity.

Waterloo and Taunton Conservative Club held a charity hamper draw packed full of goodies to support their former bar staff member Sally Watkin.

Sally, from Ashton-under-Lyne, challenged herself during the month of February to run 28 miles to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Breaking the miles down, Sally ran around the Waterloo area of the town to accomplish her target.

Including the hamper draw on the Elvis tribute night, club members dug deep and Sally managed to raise over £1,000 for the charity – which provides information, support and services for people living with cancer and their loved ones.

Leon Tamcken, Chairman of the club on Oldham Road, commented: “We are so proud of Sally and were only too pleased we could support her with this charity fundraiser during our Elvis tribute. She has been amazing!

“In the words of Elvis – thank you very much!”
