Deputy PM praises Tameside nursery’s SEND support

THE Deputy Prime Minister has officially opened a new sensory room at a local nursery rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Angela Rayner, the MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, paid a visit to Little Giggles Private Day Nursery and Preschool.

The Evans Street nursery, open for 14 years, was recently highlighted by inspectors from the education watchdog for having ‘phenomenal’ support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

A spokesperson for Little Giggles said it was a pleasure to welcome the MP who was “incredibly supportive and engaged”.

They added: “It was an honour to showcase our new Sensory Room, a space designed to support children with additional needs, helping them feel calm, engaged, and empowered in their learning.

“We also had the opportunity to share the incredible work we do in securing EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans) for children who need additional support, as well as our continuous investment in staff training and renovations to create the best possible environment for every child in our care.

“Angela was incredibly supportive and engaged, and it was lovely to show her around and highlight the passion and dedication that goes into making a difference for children and families in our community.”

The MP said she was honoured to visit the nursery, which currently has 48 children with recognised SEND needs on its roll.

“The care and dedication from all staff members at Little Giggles is clear to see and their recent Ofsted result is incredibly well deserved,” Ms Rayner opined.

“The sensory room is a wonderful space for children to enjoy and will serve to enhance the inclusive and nurturing environment at the nursery.”
