Mossley SOUP bowls over cricket club with funding boost

THE latest Mossley SOUP has stumped up vital funds to improve an outdoor seating area at Micklehurst Cricket Club.

The club’s planned Kippax Corner Regeneration project has netted a fundraising uplift from the support of the local community.

After securing the most votes on the night, it received £1,695 – which was raised from donations on the door, a raffle, a £250 donation from Mossley Town Council and £100 from event sponsor Premier Kia.

Chris Hepworth, presenter of Kippax Corner Regeneration at Mossley SOUP 19

Chris Hepworth, who presented at the event on the cricket club’s behalf, said: “What a fantastic community initiative! We were delighted to be invited to present at Mossley SOUP and all of the projects were great. We are privileged to have won and can’t thank Mossley SOUP, supporters and everyone who attended on the night enough.

“I was nervous before presenting on behalf of the club, but everyone was very kind and welcoming so that put me at ease. Well done to everyone involved with Mossley SOUP and we look forward to utilising the vital funds to make our project a reality.”

The three other projects which presented – Milton St John’s Parent Teacher Association, Mossley Town Twinning Committee football tournament, and Walk Tall by Full Stilt – also received £100 each from Premier Kia.

Mossley SOUP 19 project presenters

More than 160 diners were in attendance at the 19th edition of the community crowdfunding event at Emmaus Mossley.

They each donated £5 in return for soup prepared by local volunteers Danny, Daz and Rita with ingredients donated by Co-op Mossley and Mossley Organic and Fine Foods; entertainment from local musicians Jon, Dan and Matt; presentations from the four local projects, and a vote.

Each presenter had four minutes to share their project or idea, followed by four questions from the audience. After the presentations, diners cast their vote, a fundraising raffle was drawn and then the winning project was announced.

Raffle prizes were donated by Anthony Barton Independent Family Funeral Service; Body & Mind Therapy Centre; Countryside Kids; Hatch Bakery; Manchester Candle Makers; Mossley AFC; Reclamation Room; Royal Exchange Theatre; The Old Cobblers, and The Vale.

Project ideas are being sought from individuals, artists, community groups, charities and businesses for the next Mossley SOUP event, planned for October 2025. To find out more and submit a proposal, visit http://bit.ly/MossleySOUP.
