Tameside charities buzzing from credit union lottery boost

A CREDIT union lottery has helped to hand a funding boost to two charities based in Tameside.

Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity and The Anthony Seddon Fund have both received more than £1,700 towards their work.

It’s thanks to money raised through Manchester Credit Union’s Busy Bee Lottery – which enables credit union members to support local good causes and have a chance of winning a monthly cash prize.

The initiative has raised over £27,000 in charitable funds since its January 2023 inception.

The funding will help transform the sensory room in Tameside Hospital’s Children’s Unit and provide inspirational books for children in care.

“These projects are all about making a positive, lasting impact on young lives in Tameside and Glossop,” said Charity Manager Emily Burgin. “We are incredibly grateful to the Busy Bee Lottery for their generous donation.”

Meanwhile, mental health charity The Anthony Seddon Fund will use its Busy Bee Lottery funds to keep peer support drop-in sessions running – which are a lifeline for individuals facing mental health challenges and social isolation.

“This unexpected donation of such a large amount couldn’t have come at a better time for us,” said Harry Thomas, Chief Operating Officer.

“It will go towards keeping our peer support drop-in running five days a week – and maybe even a few cakes for our customers! We’re incredibly grateful to Manchester Credit Union and their members for their generosity.”

Operating from three physical branches, Manchester Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial co-operative which helps people in Greater Manchester free themselves from debt.
