Tameside theatre group’s brilliance earns prestigious awards

AN ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE theatre group is celebrating after winning three prestigious awards for performances at a Hyde theatre.

Sparks Dramatic Society received 16 nominations across 10 categories at this year’s NODA District 1 Awards for their two pantomimes, Rumpelstiltskin and The Blow Queen – The Adult Panto, which were held at Hyde Festival Theatre.

And after competition from 30 other societies from across Manchester, Macclesfield, Stockport, Altrincham, Glossop, Salford and Prestwich, it walked away with a trio of gongs at a ceremony at Manchester’s Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on Saturday, January 18.

Adam Carter was named Best Pantomime Villain for his portrayal of the titular character in Rumpelstiltskin.

Tony Scott George scooped the title of Best Pantomime Dame for his performance as Dame Fonda Dix in The Blow Queen – The Adult Panto.

And the production itself was named Best Pantomime.

The team from Sparks Dramatic Society said: “We are absolutely delighted with these wins! To be nominated in so many categories was an honour in itself.

“But to take home three awards is incredible.

“It’s a testament to the hard work, creativity, and passion of everyone involved in our productions.”

Sparks Dramatic Society is far from resting on its laurels after its success.

For plans are already in motion for its 2025 pantomime season, promising even more laughter, magic, and top-quality performances.

Audiences can look forward to Snow White – The Family Pantomime with Rumpel4skin – The Adult Pantomime set to deliver a hilarious, cheeky twist on a classic tale.

Casting and rehearsals for the productions, which will again be at Festival Theatre, are set to take place in summer.
