TAMESIDE MPs holding two of the most powerful positions in the country have agreed one thing – a new lease for their office.
Angela Rayner and Jonathan Reynolds may be attracting criticism from many people after landing their front bench roles.
But the Ashton-under-Lyne and Stalybridge and Hyde parliamentarians have secured their bases for longer.
Deputy Prime Minister Ms Rayner’s will be on the first floor of Ashton’s indoor market, which may well have gone through huge changes by the end of her five-year agreement.
And Business Secretary Mr Reynolds would hope to see much of Hyde’s masterplan being enacted when his four-year lease of part of the first floor of its town hall expires.
Tameside Council will pocket just over £70,000 from the new terms – Ms Rayner’s costing £7,374 a year with Mr Reynolds’ £8,420.
The former’s new terms include the cost of four car parking passes, which have added to the total.
According to a Tameside Council report: “Angela Rayner MP occupies the above offices by virtue of a five-year lease dated December 23, 2019.
“It is proposed to grant a new five-year lease on the same terms, subject to a revised rental of £4,479 per annum plus VAT.
“In addition, four car parking spaces on nearby council long stay surface pay and display carparks are to be included in the renewal lease.
“The cost will be £417 plus VAT per annum per space – a total additional cost of £1,666 plus VAT per annum for the four spaces.”
Mr Reynolds’ is described as being on ‘broadly similar terms’ as the one he had previously.
However, both will be subject of an annual rent review in accordance with the Retail Prices Index.
