A GIRLGUIDING group in Tameside which has been part of the community for over 60 years is looking for new leaders to join.
6th Ashton Guides first started in 1960 at Red Hall Church in Audenshaw but now meets at Trinity Church’s community building.
Angela Cattell, one of the leaders of the group of girls aged between 10 and 14, is retiring soon so new volunteers are being sought to help support the existing leader.
Girlguiding, the UK’s largest youth organisation dedicated completely to girls, helps provide new opportunities and experiences – such as camping, bowling, learning how to cooperate and other life skills.
“Guiding is a great place to make friends, broaden your experiences and have fun while helping girls to develop confidence and mature,” said Angela.
“Girlguiding leaders can be any age over 18 and there is lots of training and help available.
“Volunteering is flexible and doesn’t have to be a weekly commitment. There are lots of different roles to choose from to fit in with your lifestyle and we will provide all the training and support you need.
“We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, ages, cultures, faiths and abilities.”
A group of Brownies – which also meets at Trinity – is looking for more girls aged from seven to 10 years old to join.
They have recently visited Pets at Home and attended a division camp, as they look forward to going to Circus Sensible – all on top of their normal programme of learning how to lead and communicate, helping other people and playing games.
