Local pupils’ festive designs shine on Deputy PM’s cards

THREE festive pictures designed by local schoolchildren will be on the front of Christmas cards sent by the Deputy Prime Minister.

Local MP Angela Rayner holds a competition every year inviting children from primary schools across her constituency to get creative.

She sends out the cards to her friends, fellow MPs and dignitaries including King Charles.

Hundreds of entries were received from schools in Ashton-under-Lyne, Audenshaw, Dukinfield and Droylsden this year – and among them, three winners were chosen.

In first place was Sienna Moss from Ravensfield Primary in Dukinfield, with her artistic design of Santa travelling across a rainbow globe set against a black sky.

Kobe Forsythe from Aldwyn Primary in Audenshaw was the runner-up and Nasma Mekki Arabi from Waterloo Primary came third. Their designs both featured Santa on his sleigh setting off to deliver presents.

To congratulate them and spread some festive cheer, MP Rayner – who is also the Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary – visited the children in school.

“School visits are my favourite bit of the job and I always look forward to seeing all the wonderful designs submitted by local children,” she said.

“In my office, my team and I often deal with people who are sad and need help with very serious issues so seeing all these lovely pictures really cheered us up.

“I would like to thank all the children who took part in this year’s competition and give my congratulations to Sienna, Kobe and Nasma. I am very proud to be sending out cards with your pictures on.”
