Funding strikes a chord for young Tameside musicians

YOUNG people across Tameside looking to learn music have been given a noteworthy boost.

The council has scored a major win after receiving some fresh funding from Arts Council England.

A grant of £119,569 will support the purchase of musical instruments and equipment.

Tameside Music Service has been given £363,994 this financial year to encourage inclusive practice, continue to find ways to engage children who experience barriers to accessing music, and engage other local cultural providers who can help to increase the music offer’s diversity.

The overall funding will also help to support local children and young people progress in making music, providing them with new opportunities to learn, perform and develop their music skills.

Based at Birch Lane Centre in Dukinfield, Tameside Music Service works with over 7,000 young people and adults across the borough, offering inclusive and authentic tuition, bands, ensembles and musical opportunities.

Councillor Leanne Feeley, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said: “This new funding is of great excitement to us as it will ensure that all children and young people have a high quality, enjoyable and inclusive music education that enables them to achieve their full potential.”
