A MOSSLEY arts venue is hosting a winter crafting evening where creative minds can unleash their talents in a festive atmosphere.
The relaxed two-hour workshop at The Vale offers an introduction to the ancient art of felting.
The session, aimed at adults, was masterminded after a recent taster at the centre’s recent third birthday celebrations proved popular.
Emily Wood, from Cabasa Carnival Arts, will take participants through how to felt an evocative winter scene or even a festive landscape using a technique called wet felting.
The more nimble-fingered can ask for guidance on creating a 3D figure.
The art of turning individual wool fibres into densely textured fabric, felting has been around for thousands of years, with the earliest-known examples of felt clothing, bedding and even tents coming from Siberia and Mongolia.
“As crafting continues to grow in popularity across the UK, The Vale’s winter Felt & Fizz workshop offers attendees a chance to unwind, unplug and connect,” said Amelia Bayliss, The Vale’s General Manager.
“This workshop reflects a broader movement in the UK toward sustainable, slow-made crafts, making it a meaningful and timely activity for the winter season and for The Vale’s overall mission.
“By the end of this unforgettable evening of creativity and relaxation, participants will leave with their very own handmade felted creation and a sense of accomplishment.”
The workshop is on Thursday, November 28, from 7pm to 9pm at The Vale, off Micklehurst Road.
Tickets are £15 or people can donate what they can. They can be bought online or call the box office on 01457 238089.
Attendees will be offered a complimentary glass of fizz – with a non-alcoholic option available – and additional drinks will be available to buy.
