TAMESIDE College raised an impressive sum for breast cancer charity with ‘pink week’ event.
Floristry students and staff raised £675 for charity, Breast Cancer Now, with a week of Halloween themed activities.
Students created pumpkin arrangements, made with pink pumpkins and autumnal flowers, alongside bouquets and other items which went on sale to staff and students across the college.
They also hosted a range of games and activities with prizes such as ‘guess the weight of the pumpkin’.
Breast Cancer Now conducts lifesaving research into breast cancer treatments and cures, alongside providing support to those living with cancer. Their annual ‘wear it pink’ campaign raises awareness of the charity and vital funds.
Alongside, raising money for a good cause, events such as these allow students to develop key skills such as communication and teamwork as well as complete vital coursework.
Gema Vickers, floristry teacher at Tameside College, said: “I am absolutely blown away that the students have managed to raise so much money for charity, it’s a huge amount. They have all worked so hard to create their arrangements and put a lot of work into the planning and preparation for the event, so well done to them. Breast cancer has a huge impact on people’s lives and to be able to fund such an important charity in the fight against it is very satisfying.”
Cora Saltine, floristry student at Tameside College, said: “Everyone’s positive comments during the day were fantastic and gave us all confidence in our designs and the work we were doing. The final amount raised is amazing and for such a good charity, working as a team so that everyone could participate.”
