NO matter which Tameside town you reside in, locals come together every year over Remembrance weekend to remember those who have lost their lives during conflict.
Once again, the borough will fall silent during respectful ceremonies to honour servicemen and women who risked their lives for our freedom during two world wars and many other conflicts.
People from towns, villages and communities will gather over the weekend of November 9 and 10, and into Monday, November 11 – which is Armistice Day.
The Civic Mayor of Tameside is encouraging everyone to pay their respects by attending one of the many services and ceremonies taking place across Tameside.
“Even though it’s 110 years since the First World War started, and next year will be 80 since the Second World War ended, conflict has returned to Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere,” said Hyde Godley councillor Betty Affleck.
“For that reason, I believe it’s doubly important we remember not only the sacrifice of those who did their duty in past wars but also the men and women currently serving in UK forces across the world.”
