Two Tameside Council cabinet members sacked

TWO MEMBERS of Tameside Council’s executive cabinet have been sacked in the wake of the resignation of chief executive Sandra Stewart.

Cllrs John Taylor and Eleanor Wills have lost their roles in charge of adult social care and inclusivity and population health and wellbeing respectively.

The Correspondent understands they have been replaced by Mossley’s Cllr Tafheen Sharif, who was civic mayor last year, and Longdendale’s Gary Ferguson.

Following the resignation of Ms Stewart, who is departing to become chief executive of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund, it is believed Tameside Council’s executive leader, Cllr Gerald Cooney, is reviewing his political team.

Portfolio titles may be altered and there may yet be further changes after a full council meeting on Tuesday, October 8 saw members discuss the ramifications of Ms Stewart’s decision behind closed doors.

Recently, Cllr Teresa Smith became executive member for children’s services, replacing Cllr Bill Fairfoull.

While former leader, Cllr Brenda Warrington, has been accepted as new leader of that department’s scrutiny panel.

However, the decision to ditch two members of the cabinet is thought to have sent shockwaves through the ruling Labour group.

  1. I wouldn’t put her in charge of a pension fund! She’s as corrupt as you can possibly get and has been booted as I assume Angela Raynor won’t want any mud sticking to her in her own constituency. Gone and not before time. Hopefully they will eradicate the rest of the corruption and make Tameside council respectable.
