AFTER a five-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Denton Carnival made a triumphant return, bringing joy back to the streets of the town.
Hundreds of residents lined the route from Haughton Green to Civic Square welcoming the first parade since 2019, as the beloved event resumed its place as a cornerstone of the local community.
The parade kicked off at noon on Two Trees Lane before winding its way through the town via Stockport Road, Crown Point, Manchester Road, Acre Street and finally Duke Street.
The streets were filled with participants – ranging from local groups including Denton Brass, Tameside Car Collectors, Denton Youth FC, and Lane’s Dance Academy to organisations such as Hyde Accessibility Transport, Hyde Fundraisers, Mencap and Tame Valley Scouts as well as the Councillors for the area.
Denton MP Andrew Gwynne, who took part in the festivities expressed his delight at the return of the carnival, highlighting the immense effort required to bring it back.
The day’s celebrations extended beyond the parade, with a family funfair, Makers Market and a variety of food and drink outlets.
