A TAMESIDE town’s final bank branch has closed its doors for the last time and its cash machines have been boarded up.
Natwest, on Melbourne Street in Stalybridge, will no longer open after it was confirmed last year it would shut – initially on July 8, but that was extended until August 29.
Now, the doors are closed, and a team is on site removing all fixtures and fittings including its two cash machines.
Instead, a new Banking Hub, owned by Cash Access UK and operated by the Post Office, will offer face-to-face cash and banking services in the community.
The Correspondent revealed a temporary banking hub would operate out of St Andrew’s House on Waterloo Road before relocating to empty units on Armentieres Square.
And with signs below Summers Quay in place, it is understood the permanent home of the banking hub will open imminently.
While the new facility will not have a cash machine, customers can withdraw and deposit cash at the counter in store.
There are also two cash machines situated at nearby Tesco.
