Person found dead on tracks at Ashton’s railway station

A PERSON has been found dead on the tracks at Ashton-under-Lyne’s railway station.

Emergency services vehicles formed a large response to reports of a casualty on the line at the facility, which stands at the junction of the town’s northern bypass, Wellington Road and Turner Lane, on the afternoon of Thursday, September 5.

And a person, whose gender or age has not been confirmed, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their death is not being treated as suspicious.

Photos of the scene show several police and fire service vehicles at Ashton-under-Lyne station. An evidence tent was also erected on the railway line following the incident.

As a result, train services between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge were suspended.

And a British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Ashton-Under-Lyne station shortly after 2.30pm on Thursday, 5 September, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
