Stalybridge store to close this month for refurbishment

SHOPPERS in Stalybridge will need to adjust their plans next month as Aldi supermarket is set to temporarily close its doors for a refurbishment.

The store, on Leech Street, will close at 4pm on Sunday, September 15, and reopen at 8am on Friday, September 20.

It is part of a broader initiative by the chain, which announced earlier this year it would be refurbishing dozens of stores across the country.

The aim is to improve store layouts, providing customers with a more spacious and convenient shopping experience.

The Stalybridge branch will follow in the footsteps of Aldi’s Hyde location, which has already undergone similar upgrades.

The upcoming improvements will not only enhance the store’s interior but also a series of sustainability measures.

These include the installation of doors on fridges to reduce energy consumption and the use of natural refrigerants to help lower its carbon footprint.

Aldi’s refurbishment efforts are part of a larger £90 million investment throughout 2024.

The company has seen a surge in customer numbers over the past year and this spend is aimed at ensuring its stores continue to offer their best shopping experience.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, highlighted the company’s dual focus on customer experience and environmental responsibility.

“Aldi attracted more new customers than any other grocery retailer in the last 12 months, and we want to continue to offer the best possible in-store experience for our shoppers,” he said.

“Finding ways to reduce any environmental impact as we continue to grow our store estate across the country is also a vital part of these changes.”
