Mossley Hollins pupil reveals secret behind GCSE success

A TALENTED pupil believes her decision to ditch social media in the run-up to her GCSE exams has paid off.

Nell Sedgwick achieved five grade nines – two in Science plus Maths, English Literature and Geography, an eight in English Language and sevens in Art and Design, Spanish and Further Maths.

And one of Mossley Hollins High School’s highest achievers has revealed how getting rid of all things online helped her.

Nell, who lives in Mossley, said: “I revised for the entirety of Year 11 basically, every night when I got home from school.

“I also deleted all my social media, which all my friends found quite funny.

“I got rid of them while the GCSEs were on, I knew I’d just waste my time on my phone if I had them.

“A lot of people say they wish they could do that.”

Nell is off to Ashton Sixth Form College to study A-Levels in Maths, Biology and Chemistry.

And he Further Maths qualification is down to a stubborn teacher, who knew she could do it.

Nell added: “At the start of Year 10, I didn’t want to do Further Maths because I thought I couldn’t do it, so I wanted to change classes and do an easier version.

“But my teacher didn’t let me – and we’re happy he didn’t.

“I was very nervous before I opened my envelope. More about if I didn’t get two nines in science because for the entire year, I’d had that.

“I knew I wouldn’t do particularly well in Spanish and Art. I got sevens in them and in my eyes, that’s not doing particularly well.

“I have really high expectations.”
