Hyde Mela promises to be mega again

HYDE is gearing up for the return of a family-friendly event where the whole Tameside community is invited to join in the fun.

Hyde Mela will be back on Sunday, August 25, in Hyde Park from 11am to 6pm.

It first happened in 2021 as members of Hyde’s Asian community looked to replicate the success of events held in other areas of the region that have diverse communities.

A ‘mela’ is a fully inclusive celebration that includes entertainment and food, promoting community purpose and unity.

The popular event – organised by volunteers from the Hyde Mela Trust – was self funded for the first three years but has this year received National Lottery funding to secure its immediate future.

Entry to the park is free and there will be plenty to keep people of all ages entertained – from local bands, singers and dance groups to fairground rides, classic cars, a range of stalls, balloon modelling and face painting.

Dogs on leads are welcome and parking will be available on the fairground site adjacent to the park.

There are some stalls still available – free for charity organisations, £40 for non food and £60 for food stalls – by emailing hydemelatrust@gmail.com
