A MAN from Stalybridge has been charged with violent disorder following rioting in Manchester city centre last weekend.
David Green, 41, of Hamilton Street, has been remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.
He was charged in connection with violent disorder which happened in Piccadilly Gardens on Saturday (August 3).
Three other men have also been charged – Liam Ryan, 28, of Thirkleby Road, Bradford, with violent disorder; Andrew Phillips, 27, of Ripon Crescent, Stretford, with violent disorder and assault; and Shaun Holt, 42, of Oak Road, Stockport, with violent disorder and assault.
There were a number of riots in towns and cities across England over the course of the weekend.
Chief Constable Stephen Watson confirmed on Monday (August 6) that officers had arrested 28 people involved in rioting across Greater Manchester last weekend.
He also stated that more arrests were likely to follow.
Meanwhile, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham told a press conference that he would “personally ensure” that GMP will have “all the resources they need” to maintain control of streets and law and order in communities, as he moved to reassure residents they are doing “everything within our power” to keep people safe.
