A GEM of an evening of live entertainment in Stalybridge has helped to raise hundreds of pounds for two dementia charities.
Tameside Rotary recently held its inaugural Denim & Diamonds event at Stanley Square Conservative Club.
The spectacular night raised £1,200 – which has been split between Tameside Dementia in Action and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Artists Phil Richmond and Lee Tatton soon had the audience dancing and awarded a range of prizes as they judged the ‘dress to impress’ competition.
The event – which included a raffle – was compered by local fundraiser Angie Wild and Tameside Rotary’s outgoing President Steve Knowles.
Angie explained to the audience how The Alzheimer’s Society offers support via dementia advisors across Tameside, who can be contacted via the website www.alzheimers.org.uk.
She ended by saying: “Dementia is very close to my heart and I will continue to support the Alzheimer’s Society through my fundraising wherever I can.”
Marion Coleman, representing Tameside Dementia in Action, explained how her group organise music and singing sessions to harness the power of music on brain health.
She outlined the positive impact music can have on the wellbeing of people affected by dementia or memory loss and their family carers.
Tameside Rotary’s next fundraiser is the club’s annual Golf Day, at Werneth Low Golf Club, on August 23 in aid of Willow Wood Hospice.
