A LONG-SERVING trader in Denton has received a special award from his MP as he shuts up shop after nearly four decades.
Paresh ‘Paz’ Chohan has been serving the local community in Denton for 38 years – firstly at Denton Market and then at his ‘Your Choice General Store’ shop on the Civic Square, which closed its doors for the final time last week.
He was nominated for a Citizen’s Award by local resident Carol Stewart, who felt his years of service deserved some recognition.
Paz is the first recipient of the award since Gwynne was elected as the first MP for the newly formed Denton and Gorton constituency earlier this month.
He was joined in presenting the accolade by his wife Allison, who is a councillor for the Denton North East ward.
The Labour MP, who is now a Minister for Public Health and Prevention, said: “It was a pleasure to recognise Paz’s 38 years of service to our local community by presenting him with a Citizen’s Award.
“Paz has become an institution in Denton and we will all miss his kindness and friendship.
“I wish Paz all the very best as a great era comes to a close, and I’m sure he will be missed by many across Denton.”
Citizen’s Awards were started back in 2020 and aim to celebrate community heroes who go above and beyond for local people.
