01:45am: Ian Owen says his campaign in Stalybridge and Hyde has been “extremely encouraging considering I’m standing as an independent”.
He hopes this election can herald the start of a “longer programme” to “excite a body of interest” in independent candidates and “the benefits they can bring to a constituency and wards at local council level”.
01:44am: Dominic Hardwick, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Ashton-under-Lyne, believes ‘relatable’ leader Sir Ed Davey has sparked a national resurgence for the party.
01:38am: Lizzie Hacking, the Conservative Party candidate in Ashton-under-Lyne, feels Angela Rayner has taken her eye off the constituency and concentrated her own personal political gains.
01:06am: We have just received confirmation of the turnout for the Stalybridge and Hyde constituency, which is 51.69%.
Mossley is the ward with the highest turnout at 62.79%.
01:02am: Tameside Council leader Cllr Gerald Cooney says Labour’s predicted figures are that incumbent MPs Jonathan Reynolds and Angela Rayner will be re-elected with increased majorities.
“We are pleased with that and that we are the alternative choice,” he told us. “The overriding message on the doorsteps was that people were sick of this government.”
12:49am: The turnout has been confirmed for the Ashton-under-Lyne constituency, which is 50.14% overall.
Droylsden East is the ward with the highest turnout, with 56.40% of the electorate there casting a vote.
12:33am: Early indications suggest Reform UK may come second in the Ashton-under-Lyne seat.
12:20am: The returning officer Sandra Stewart has just announced that the second stage of counting is now getting under way for the Ashton-under-Lyne constituency, closely followed by Stalybridge and Hyde.
12:13am: Hyde Godley councillor Andrea Colbourne says the campaign has been “quite positive” for the Conservatives across Stalybridge and Hyde, but admits the national picture can impact the local outcome.
12:08am: Hyde Newton councillor Hugh Roderick (left) says Labour has had “a lot of support on the doorsteps” in Stalybridge and Hyde, but there has also been “a lot of apathy about politics generally” which is “a concern”.
12:01am: Robert Hodgetts-Haley, the Green Party’s candidate in Stalybridge and Hyde, believes it is not long before Tameside has a Green Councillor again after seeing the reaction to his campaign.

She added: “Our one and only target was to raise the profile of the people because they have been lost in all the madness of politics.”

10:51pm: Exit polls put Labour as winning 410 seats nationally. The Conservatives are forecast to have 131 with Reform 13.
10:25pm: Counting of ballot papers has begun and is taking place in two separate rooms inside Dukinfield Town Hall. The Ashton-under-Lyne constituency is being counted in the main hall, and the Stalybridge and Hyde constituency in the George Hatton Hall upstairs.
