Donation boost for women’s refuge

A REFUGE supporting women who have been victims of domestic abuse has been boosted by a donation of £350.

The money was recently pledged by Dukinfield councillor Jackie Lane, on behalf of The Together Centre, in conjunction with Tesco Hattersley’s Community Champion Sonia Healey.

The women’s refuge in Tameside is supported through The Bridges Partnership – the new domestic abuse support service in the borough, which includes Tameside Council and Jigsaw Homes.

Cllr Lane has supported the refuge for over 30 years, having initially completed over 100 hours of placement there to help secure her degree as a one-to-one therapist counsellor. She was supported for the qualification by her mother, who had been a victim herself of domestic violence.

Every month, Tesco’s Hattersley store makes donations to a number of local and national charities.

Women who feel threatened or are suffering domestic abuse can call 999 if there is an immediate threat, or dial 0800 328 0967 for information or outreach support.
