Tameside smokers to pay for leaving cigarette butts

TWO TAMESIDE smokers have been ordered to pay a total of more than £850 after being found to have thrown cigarette butts to the ground.

Michael Bradbury, of Old Farm Road in Droylsden, and Jack Montague, of Kingsbridge Avenue in Hyde, were each caught in 2023.

Now they have been hit in the pocket after cases against them were proved at Tameside Magistrates Court.

Mr Bradbury, 39, committed his act on Cambert Lane in the Belle Vue area of Manchester on October 19 that year.

Teenager Mr Montague, 19, was prosecuted after throwing a butt down on Great Western Street in the city centre on September 27.

Both were prosecuted under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and each was punished financially.

Fines of £220 were handed out, while they were ordered to pay an £88 surcharge to fund victim services and costs of £125.

That makes it a total of £433 each, or £866 combined, and both have until July 22 to pay.
