STALYBRIDGE’S NatWest branch will close its doors as planned this summer – but the bank has announced a seven-week extension to the original date.
It was confirmed last year that the branch, on Melbourne Street, would shut on July 8, 2024 but a letter recently sent out by the bank sets a new date of August 29.
Instead, a new Banking Hub, owned by Cash Access UK and operated by the Post Office, will offer face-to-face cash and banking services in the community.
The bank’s letter states: “We wrote to our customers last year telling them NatWest Stalybridge would be closing on 8 July 2024 and that Stalybridge has been chosen to have a Banking Hub.
“We can confirm that we are keeping our branch open until 29 August 2024. This will give you more time to prepare for the branch closure.
“The Banking Hub will provide customers with a face-to-face service, which includes a counter service provided by the Post Office, where you can do your everyday banking and can also be used by customers from other banks.”
The bank’s letter adds that customers’ sort codes, account numbers, standing orders and direct debits will not change.
Customers can continue to use debit cards, paying-in books and cheque books as normal. Only the branch address on statements and any new cheque books will change.
Plans for the new Banking Hub are underway, which would see the facilities open at the bottom of the Summers Quay development, on Armentieres Square.
