A LOCAL club was left counting the cost of a break-in during which ‘significant damage’ was caused and cash stolen.
Waterloo and Taunton Conservative Club said it was ‘targeted’ during the day on Tuesday, June 11, forcing it to close for a 24-hour period.
Club Secretary, Lyndon Watkin, said: “We are angry but, at the same time, heartbroken that someone could target our club, especially as we do so much to support the local community and raise thousands of pounds for charities.”

A statement from the club committee said it was working with Greater Manchester Police to ‘bring the perpetrators to justice’.
Established in 1891, the club – based on Oldham Road in Ashton-under-Lyne – was named Club Mirror – Charity Club of the Year for 2023 for its support of both local and national charities.
The club reopened to members on Wednesday afternoon and has continued to offer its busy programme of activities and events – including screening the Euro 2024 football.
