Tameside beers to tickle the taste buds at major festival

BEER lovers in Tameside will be able to taste the best of what the borough has to offer after a number of brews were listed in Stockport’s celebration.

Leading the way at the town’s Beer and Cider Festival is Bridge Beers, who have recently moved their brewery from Stalybridge to Hyde.

Their light and refreshing 3.8 per cent Golden Mild, which was a big hit on the recent Mild Magic Ale Trail, will join golden ale Mumbai (4.2 per cent) and the 4.7 per cent Dark Matter Black Cherry Stout at the event, which takes place at the Masonic Guildhall.

More than 250 different beers, ciders and perries will be showcased, as well as food and entertainment.

And this year, breweries in Scotland and North East England will feature alongside many from the Greater Manchester area.

Entertainment, which is in a separate room, is curated by The Stockport Music Story and Seven Miles Out and features a number of local bands.

England’s Euro 2024 match against Denmark, on Thursday, June 20, will be shown live.

Reuben’s Retreat, from Glossop, is this year’s Beer Festival Charity, and they will have a stand featuring several beers, as well as offering soft drinks and snacks.

Festival organiser Jim Flynn said: “Once again, we are offering the largest variety of beers, ciders and perries in the area all under one roof, so there will be something to tickle everyone’s taste buds.

“Our volunteer staff have a wide experience of the drinks available and will be able to find something to your taste.

“There’s entertainment, food and souvenirs available too, so please come along and see what we have to offer. It all makes a grand day out.”

The Beer Festival opens at 5.30pm on the Thursday and at noon on Friday and Saturday. Bars close at 11pm on Thursday and Friday and 9.30pm on Saturday.

Admission on the door is £4, and £2 for CAMRA members. You can also buy an advance package for £16.50 (£15 for CAMRA members) which covers express entry, £10 worth of beer tokens and a refundable glass.
