ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE will celebrate everything it has to offer – and will have to offer in the future – on its own Day.
For Ashton Day is coming on Saturday, June 8 between 11am and 2pm.
The town’s Market Hall will be hosting a pop-up session to update shoppers and visitors on the exciting new Market Square project that will commence this summer.
It will deliver a new canopy, fixed stalls and improved public realm space funded through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
There will also be a free booklet, highlighting local shops, events and the work taking place over the next year in the town centre, that people can pick up, with a cover featuring the work of popular street artists The Hammo and Jay Sharples Art.
Arcades Shopping Centre will host a display of vintage images in the centre and there is chance for people to get involved.
Meanwhile, join The Black Knight at Ladysmith Shopping Centre, where people will hear the story of this infamous character and then try their hand at drawing him with an artist.
Sessions will be taking place at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
Ashton Town Team, a voluntary group supporting the town centre independent businesses, is organising the second of its 2024 events funded by UK Shared Prosperity Fund Creative Communities Grant.
It is a family event and part of smoke free Events in Tameside.
An Ashton Town Team spokesperson said: “We thank you in advance for not smoking at this event and helping us to keep Tameside smokefree and healthy for children and families.”
