Stalybridge butcher is back like a Boult

A STALYBRIDGE butcher is back doing what it does best after being damaged when a car ploughed through its back wall.

Boult’s, on Melbourne Street, was closed for 14 weeks as the wreckage to the building was repaired.

But on Saturday, May 18, owner John and his staff were back behind the counter serving customers.

And within five minutes of opening the door, a steady stream of people was heading in.

In fact, had the store opened earlier, they would have had custom as at least three people tried to enter before!

“It’s been a while,” said John as he received presents from other business owners congratulating him on re-opening.

He also joked: “After careful consideration we have decided against becoming a ‘drive through butcher’s’ – walk-ins only please!

“I’d like to give a huge thank you to everyone who has helped along the way. Firstly, my team for their hard work behind the scenes and all the local tradesmen who helped with the rebuild.

“Also, to Jonathan Reynolds MP for his assistance with the insurance company – without his help the repairs would have been delayed even further.”

Boult’s found itself damaged on February 12 in what is described as ‘a terrible accident’ in which no-one was seriously injured.

The rebuild included a new wall, cladding, ceiling and floor, as well as electric and plumbing systems. Refrigerators and other equipment had to be repaired.

First customer in after the re-opening was Jennie Wood, who believes something like Boult’s is vital.

She said: “I’m so glad Boult’s is back open. I can stop buying supermarket meat now.

“And having something like Boult’s is very important for Stalybridge. We don’t have a butcher’s shop other than this.”
