Two fundraisers for one final push for Civic Mayor’s charities

DRESSES, dishes and cycling are at the heart of two fundraisers organised by the outgoing Civic Mayor of Tameside.

Councillor Tafheen Sharif is looking to give her charity appeal one final push before her mayoral term comes to an end later this month.

The Mossley councillor is firstly staging a Cultural Day at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday, May 17, which everyone is welcome to attend.

Organised in partnership with the Umeed (Hope) Women’s Group, it will take place from 1pm to 4pm (ladies only for the last hour) with tickets priced at £5.

Tasty food will be available from a variety of cultures to whet your appetite.

The Civic Mayor said: “I love bringing people together through sharing our common humanity to build love and understanding.

“We have many communities in Tameside and my ‘Dresses and Dishes’ event is a celebration of all they have to offer and everything they bring and contribute to our wonderful borough.

“My term of office as civic mayor is drawing to a close and I want to make my cultural day a really special way of marking the end of my year and providing a final boost to my charity appeal.”

Admission is available on the door but tickets can be bought in advance by emailing mayorsoffice@tameside.gov.uk

Then, on Saturday, May 18, Cllr Sharif has organised a fun family cycling day in partnership with Active Tameside.

From 2pm to 5pm, families can come along to the Richmond Street circuit in Ashton-under-Lyne to enjoy some healthy outdoor exercise.

There will also be a food stall, a henna artist and a face painter.

The Civic Mayor commented: “My family cycling day offers the perfect combination. You can do some healthy and very enjoyable physical activity in the open air while at the same time helping my appeal which supports some very good causes that are close to my heart.

“It will be a fun day that’s great for our families with stalls serving tasty food (Mango Indian Kitchen), a henna artist and a face painter.

“Everyone’s welcome to come along, young or old, and I hope to see a great many people at Richmond Street on the day, all enjoying a great family fun cycling day.”

Bikes are available at the cycling circuit and up to 25 people are allowed on the track at any one time.

Tickets are £5. They are available on the day (cash only) or can be reserved in advance by emailing mayorsoffice@tameside.gov.uk

All proceeds from both events will go to the Civic Mayor’s charity appeal fund.

This comprises Home-Start (HOST), which offers expert support to families with young children that are going through difficult times; West African Development, which helps ethnic minority communities in Tameside, and We Shall Overcome, an organisation providing support for the homeless.
