‘Beloved’ and ‘beautiful’ man dies in Ashton road traffic collision

THE FAMILY of a man who died after a road traffic collision in Ashton-under-Lyne has paid tribute to a ‘beloved’ and ‘beautiful’ person.

Shaun Davies passed away at the scene of the incident on Stockport Road late on Wednesday, April 24.

Two men have been released on bail pending further investigations by Greater Manchester Police.

But the 40-year-old’s family – which has launched an online fundraising appeal to cover costs of his funeral – has been left heartbroken.

They said: “We sadly lost our beloved brother Shaun on April 24. He was a much-loved son, brother and uncle.

“Shaun was such a beautiful, kind person who had a loving and caring character to him. He brought laughter and smiles to anyone he was around.

“As it was a very unexpected death to the family, we have set up a GoFundMe page to give Shaun the send-off he deserves.

“Us as a family ask for privacy at this time to grieve in peace. Thank you.”

Shaun was a familiar face to customers at Ashton’s Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s stores and several have added their own tributes to him.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Our Serious Collision Unit Investigators carried out enquiries after a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle at about 11.55pm on Wednesday, April 24.

“A man aged 29 was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“A second man aged 23 later handed himself in and was also arrested on suspicion of the same crime.

“Both suspects have been released on bail pending further investigations.”

Shaun’s family hopes to raise £4,000 towards his funeral costs. You can donate by clicking www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-give-shaun-the-best-send-off.
