Tameside Council Election Candidates: Denton West

Clive Patrick (Conservative)

I HAVE previously represented the Conservative Party in two wards in Tameside and have sat as a Councillor for three terms or 12 years.

I have done this because the Labour-run council has run Tameside into the ground.

Job creation, education standards, council run services and anti-social behaviour are all disgraceful.

In fact, any comparison of our neighbouring councils for undesirable things like truancy, put Tameside at the top of the list.

Whereas for any desirable things, like home ownership, we always appear at the bottom.

I ask, ‘Why keep on rewarding Labour?’ Vote for a change, vote Clive Patrick, vote Conservative!

Mike Smith (Labour)

I AM honoured to be selected as the candidate representing the Labour Party.

I have represented Denton West for many years and during that time I have always worked hard to achieve maximum benefits for our area.

I promise I will be available to residents and continue to hold regular surgeries and be accessible through social media, email and telephone.

Alongside my colleagues, I have a strong voice and I am an active team member of the local community supporting local groups and I promise to continue working hard for everyone.

One of our most popular events is the Saint George’s Day celebration – a great example of community groups working together for the benefit of all.

The protection of open spaces is important to us all. I have enjoyed being involved with conservation days at Ladbrooke Wood, planting trees at Horses Field, working with Dane Bank Green Space and regular litter picks in the local area.

I promise to continue to ensure our area is a greener and cleaner place to live.

Keith Whitehead (Green)

I HAVE lived in Tameside for almost my entire life and have been volunteering in the community since I retired eight years ago.

I made myself busy in community work during the Covid-19 pandemic – collecting shopping, prescriptions and more for vulnerable residents.

I have campaigned against the sale of council green space, the recent closing of Active Tameside facilities and I attend regular litter picks.

If elected, I intend to make the prosecution of fly tippers a priority.

I am standing to give the people of Denton West the opportunity to elect another Green Councillor following the election of my Green Party colleague in Ashton Waterloo in 2019.

Since then, numbers of Green Councillors have multiplied to 83 across the North West.

Labour and the Conservatives can no longer claim that a Green vote is a wasted vote so if you want Green, vote Green on May 2.
