Family fun day at Stamford Park

STAMFORD Park will see the local community come together and have fun at a free family event.

The flagship Victorian park on the Stalybridge-Ashton border will be a hive of activity on Sunday, April 28, from midday to 4pm.

There promises to be something for everyone at the annual spring event, which is organised by Tameside Council with support of Government funding.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the facilities including the boating lake, the aviary, the water feature and the Highfield Pavilion cafe, where a range of refreshments will be available.

As well as an opportunity to relax in the fresh air, there will be plenty of entertainment on offer – such as crafts, a climbing wall, music, stalls, walkabout acts, birds of prey and face painting.

For the cyclists amongst us, bring bikes for a MOT and Transport for Greater Manchester’s Dr Bike mechanic will fix any minor repairs.

You can also have your bike security marked and, if you don’t have a bike, there’s advice on hand about which is best to buy. Anyone who travels to the fun day by bike will also be eligible for free BikeRegister membership, which normally costs £12.99.

It’s not just humans who get to have fun, pets do too! There’s a fun dog show with lots of classes, including waggiest tail and best biscuit catcher. Entry is £2 per class and registration takes place from midday, with the RSPCA show starting at 1pm.

A Tameside Council spokesman said: “Our spring fun day is always an affordable and fun family event. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and the park will be packed with people enjoying it in all its springtime glory.”

Visitors are encouraged to travel by public transport, as parking near Stamford Park is largely residents-only, and smoking will be prohibited at the event.
