A CALL has been made for people to help make a difference to local youngsters by volunteering in Scouting.
Scout groups in Ashton-under-Lyne and Droylsden are looking for more leaders, supporters and trustees.
There are now groups of Squirrels, aged from four to six years old, but not many Scout groups have them because there aren’t enough leaders and supporters for this new section called Drays.

Volunteers are still needed for other sections in the nine scout groups of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Networks.
All volunteers need a DBS (free police check) and there are basic training modules that must be carried out within five months of starting – including Essential Information, Safety, Safeguarding and GDPR, which are free online and take around 45 minutes to complete.
Scout volunteer Alan Fish, who has received a Silver Wolf award at Windsor Castle for his many years of dedication, said: “I didn’t do it for an award, I did it to help young people be better citizens in all our differing communities. Anyone else can do it too.”
