A CHARITY shop in Stalybridge needs donations of coats to help keep older people warm during winter.
The Age UK shop on Melbourne Street is encouraging people to give coats they no longer wear, along with other unwanted warm clothing.
It’s part of the national charity’s Spread the Warmth campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the challenges older people are facing during the colder months.
The shop’s manager Janet said: “Winter is one of the toughest times for older people, which is why we are asking Stalybridge to get involved and support our Donate a Coat appeal.
“Our shop is reliant on generous donations to keep the shelves stocked. The donated coats will be sold on to be loved again, helping to recycle and reduce waste, but also raising much-needed funds for Age UK’s work supporting older people this winter and all year round.”
Funds raised help to ensure Age UK continues to provide services such as its free national Advice Line, Telephone Friendship Service and The Silver Line Helpline, to those who are vulnerable and struggling during winter.
People are also being encouraged to share a photo of the coat they are donating and spread the word on social media using the hashtag #DonateaCoat and tag Age UK.
UK taxpayers can also make their donations worth an extra 25 per cent at no extra cost to them by filling out a basic form when dropping off donations to sign up to Gift Aid.
The Age UK shop in Stalybridge is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
