A FUN-FILLED day which brings together the diverse community of Hyde will return this summer.
Hyde Mela will be back on Sunday, August 25, for the fourth successive year.
The family friendly event in Hyde Park, which is free to attend, is open to everyone and also attracts visitors from other local areas.
It has regularly brought in thousands of people and been widely regarded as a success since its inception in 2021.
After last year’s event was affected by heavy rain, the organisers – who are a dedicated band of volunteers – will be praying for a sunny day this year!
A ‘mela’ is a celebration with a market and entertainment and bringing it to Hyde was the brainchild of three important members of the local Bangladeshi community – Mohammed Khan, Mizanur Rahman Mizan and Mohammed Mohi Uddin Saleem.
They wanted an event – similar to other places in the North West – that the whole community could enjoy together and be welcome at, which promotes cohesion and diversity.
The date for the first open meeting will be announced soon, and there will also be opportunities for sponsors, volunteers, acts to entertain the crowd, and local businesses and charities to have stalls.
